About Lens & Lake

Lens & Lake is written by Janet H., the hands-on owner behind Janet Media Group. She writes about action cameras for lake and trail use — kayaks, bikes, helmets and family trips.

That is deliberately the whole of the biography. Janet is not a certified instructor, does not run a test lab, and has no professional qualification in photography or in paddlesport — and none of those things is claimed anywhere on this site. What she does have is time on the water and the specific frustration that started this project: gear advice written by people who had clearly never had cold hands on a wet deck trying to work out why the footage came back blue.

Every article, roundup, comparison and guide here carries her byline and both dates: when it was published and when it was last genuinely revised. If a page has not changed, the modified date does not move.

There are two kinds of action camera site. One is written by camera people who know every specification and have never had to mount anything to a hull. The other is written by paddlers who know the water and are four years behind on which cameras exist. The gap between them is where almost every real question lives.

So this site covers the intersection: which cameras survive the water, how to actually attach one to the thing you are on, and how to come home with footage worth watching rather than four hours nobody opens. That is organized into 7 sections and 60 guides, roundups and comparisons, and it starts with the water hub because that is the section everything else exists to support.

It is written for the traveling, portable buyer: someone who needs a camera that works wet, cold and on a moving kayak, where battery and mount decide the purchase far more than sensor size does.

We do not claim testing we have not done. No lab, no owned units, no “we put it through its paces”, no hour counts attributed to our own use. Plenty of sites in this category make testing claims nobody can check. We compete on a published method instead, set out in full on the editorial policy page.

We do not publish a price we cannot verify. Prices change constantly, so the buy buttons say “check price” and take you to the current listing. When a live price feed is connected, the number appears with the date it was read and disappears on its own when it goes stale.

We do not run testimonials or star ratings for this business. Lens & Lake is new and has no reader reviews. Inventing some would be the easiest thing on this page to fake and the fastest way to deserve no trust at all.

We do not take payment for placement. No sponsored posts, no vendor-supplied copy, no ranking by commission rate. The site is funded by affiliate links, explained in full on the affiliate disclosure page.
